The first day of “Þorri”, which according to the old Norse calendar started on Friday in the 13th. week of winter, is called “Bóndadagur” and can be translated as “husbands day”.
In these 4 weeks in Þorri, Icelander´s celebrate the old times. In every town are festivals were the food is prepared like in the old days, with smoked, salted, soured, dried fish and meat. Of course the local schnapps is not far away and a local beer made specially for this occasion.
